Hi I drive two Golfs: 2.0 TDI (150) and 1.2 TSI (105). Whenever I switch from the TDI to TSI, I'm surprised that the TSI accelerates faster and climbs hills with less fuss than the diesel. To give an example, on a minor hill (it's really just an incline) near me which is about 1/2 mile long

So what really is the difference between the TSI vs TFSI? The short answer is, not a lot, but there are some minor differences. For starters, TSI stands for “Turbo Stratified Injection” and “FSI” stands for “Fuel Stratified Injection”. These apply to both Volkswagen and Audi direct fuel injection engines. Believe it or not, TFSI stands for “Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection.” This technology is not only featured in the but you can also find TSI and TFSI in In this guide, we’ll be focusing on the engines. The main engine bases these engines are built off of are the EA113’s and EA888’s. In this guide, we’ll be going over the mechanical and technological differences between the TSI vs TFSI. FSI Engines The FSI engine was first introduced in Volkswagen’s 2006 and older. The vehicles you could find the FSI engines in are MKV Jetta’s (A5), GLIs, GTIs, Tiguans, Passats, and CCs. The engine base for these engines is mainly EA113 and it puts down 200hp and 206 lb-ft. In the weaker EA113 engines it features a BorgWarner K03 turbocharger, and in the more powerful engines, it featured a KKK K04 turbo. EA113 common engine problems are: High motor oil consumption Engine knocking Difficulty accelerating at higher RPMs Loss of engine performance (Mainly due to the N249 Valve or the PCV valve) Carbon buildup in intake valves TSI Engines The TSI engine superseded the turbo FSI with important technological and mechanical updates to address the downfalls of the FSI. It was first introduced in Volkswagen’s and Audi’s in and is still found in vehicles today. The engine base for these engines is mainly EA888 and it puts down anywhere from 170-310hp and 207-280lb-ft. The EA888 has three different versions, which means many engine modifications because it wasn’t as reliable as Volkswagen intended. EA888 common engine problems are: High motor oil consumption Stretched timing chain Carbon buildup in intake valves Thermostat housing leak Water pump failure Okay, let’s get to the point. So what is the actual difference between the two? The modifications that were found in the superseded TSI, included 9 different modifications to improve the TFSI’s engine reliability. TSI Engine Modifications Timing chain, instead of a timing belt An upgraded high-pressure fuel pump (hpfp) now located on the camshaft An updated cam follower with a roller, instead of the flat tappet Compression ratio lowered to Different downpipe An added oxygen sensor, now 3 Updated PCV system Relocated the oil filter and dipstick Redesigned engine cover and airbox CCTA vs CBFA Another common question is what is the difference between the CCTA vs CBFA engine code. These engine codes were found in – TSI’s. The CCTA adheres to 49-state emissions vehicles, while the CBFA adheres to California’s emission standards. The main difference between the two is that the CBFA includes: An addition of a secondary air injection pump Relocation of the third oxygen sensor to the turbo turbine outlet Slightly bigger intercooler core and radiator to burn cleaner emissions An additional hose on the airbox As stated above, the CBFA was pretty much made to adhere to California’s rigorous emissions policies. Conclusion & Engine Reliability In conclusion, the two engines are very similar, but the TSI superseded the Turbo FSI and may have had more common problems. These engines are not the most reliable, however, we have seen both of these last longer than 200,000 miles if they are maintained properly. Help, I"m trying to decide between the 1.8 tsi and 2.0 tdi 2015 golf with a manual trans. I am more concerned about reliability and less concerned about gas mileage or 0-60 times. The new tdi has almost no track record and also uses a timing belt which bugs be.
Passat GTE vs. TDI vs. TSI W opossible not everything was better in the past, but certainly a lot easier. When the VW Passat was presented 42 years ago, there was exactly one drive variant with different power levels and also with a three-speed automatic. A second type of engine didn't come out until 1978, when the engine from the Polo and Golf replaced the 55-hp version of the standard EA827 engine and the first diesel (based on 827) came. Today on the other hand, there is the VW Passat as a gasoline engine, of course as a diesel and, since the launch of the VW Passat GTE this year, as a plug-in hybrid. Unlike the mid-70s (55 hp), the entry-level engine has 120 hp as diesel and 125 hp as gasoline. Before we reveal to you that a basic Passat cost just 9,000 marks back then and you convert that into euros, let's finally go to today: The VW Passat GTE has a 156 hp gasoline engine plus an 85 kW electric motor. That adds up to a system output of 218 hp. Then make at least 45,250 euros at the VW dealer, which already makes it clear that this comparison test will not be cheaper. Expensive VW Passat GTE This fits the VW Passat TSI with 220 PS and DSG, which are available from 38,425 euros, for the test it comes as a highline: 41,200 euros. The corresponding diesel comes a little cheaper, it has 190 hp and costs 38,500 euros with DSG and Comfortline equipment. The price advantage of the VW Passat GTE no longer seems so gigantic, at least if you ignore the fact that there is a Passat Variant with a more modest performance starting at around 27,000 euros. After all, the VW Passat GTE calms down your climate consciousness while studying the technical data: CO2 emissions 37 grams per kilometer, which of course cannot keep up with conventional diesel and gasoline direct injection. And now you have to answer to get used to a fact that sounds truculent, but is apparently easily forgotten: every car, regardless of whether it is gasoline, diesel, hybrid or e-car, only uses as much energy as it was previously filled with. It doesn't matter whether it's fossil hydrocarbons or electrical energy. How much your car consumes is entirely up to you, how much you accelerate and how often you supply it with fresh energy. Whether you take advantage of the real advantages of the VW Passat GTE is up to you Driving profile. Who about 20 kilometers to work every daydrives, can connect the car to the power supply in the evening and practically never needs to refuel. It drives purely electrically, but does not need a VW Passat GTE at all, but can also handle an E-Golf. The advantage is also the hybrid usability, the possibility to use it like a normal car, if you want to the North Cape and back. Diesel drives cheaper at the moment This is used to calculate the test consumption, just like with any other test car. The VW Passat GTE with l /100 km is exactly between the VW Passat TDI ( l) and the VW Passat TSI ( l). The ams profile, on the other hand, corresponds to the eco consumption if the advantages of the plug-in are used, if the battery is started up. Then the VW Passat GTE initially does not need any fossil fuel at all, only electricity from the socket, around 19 kilowatt hours per 100 km. One kWh cost an average of cents in Germany, so with pure electric operation, around six euros per 100 km are charged for battery charging. Unlike usual, we do not have that to calculate fuel costs per 100,000 km Test consumption, but based on the ams profile, which corresponds to the eco-round for the combustion Passat. The VW Passat GTE causes energy costs of around 6,000 euros when it is purely electric. If the combustion engine and electric motor cooperate, l super and kWh of electricity are generated per 100 kilometers in the ams cycle, which corresponds to fuel costs of around 5,900 euros per 100,000 km. Diesel can do that Better yet, it is around 5,200 euros for him if you take into account the eco-lap consumption of five liters per 100 km and today's diesel prices. At six liters per 100 km it is around 6,000 euros, and anyone who drives a VW Passat TDI every day knows that this is not an unrealistic value. That will of course change when oil prices rise again. At a liter price of euros and six liters of consumption, the TDI is already much more expensive (7,800 euros). Cultivated plug in-Hybrid The additional price of the VW Passat GTE can only be obtained through consumption if fuel prices rise sharply. Its real advantage lies in the possibility of covering long distances with zero local emissions. The fact that this is not necessarily cheaper at today's fuel prices will not be so important to many interested parties. In addition, the VW Passat GTE can also be fully charged from a household socket very quickly, namely in around four hours. But there is also a lot to be said for the plug-in Passat. The powerful electric motor and the velvety gasoline engine result in a harmonious drive unit that not only gets straight to the point, but also runs very smoothly. Much more silky than the VW Passat TDI, the self-igniting oneIncineration process does not always hide. The VW Passat TSI, on the other hand, runs almost as cultivated, its real advantage is the better driving performance. What both fossil-powered VWs can do better, on the other hand, is springs. Although all three test cars are equipped with the DCC chassis (TSI Highline series, TDI Comfortline and GTE 1,200 euros), the two drive significantly rounder than the somewhat stiff-legged plug-in hybrid. In addition, the VW Passat GTE is noticeable when cornering with synthetic steering and sluggish turning behavior. What bothers the most, however, is the rubber ball-like pedal feel that takes getting used to when braking. The hybrid is 109 kg heavier than the VW Passat TDI and even 162 kg heavier than the VW Passat TSI, and at 1,729 kg almost twice as weight as the half-meter shorter Passat of the B1 series from 1973 (around 900 kg ). But we didn't want to talk about yesterday anymore. CONSUMPTION MEASUREMENT Because the energy consumption of a plug-in hybrid is extremely dependent on usage and the number of charging processes, we have the better one Comparability due to different consumption values evaluated in this test: Based on the eco-round (combustion engine) and the ams profile, the consumption was calculated based on an annual mileage of 15,000 km, of which 10,000 km were short journeys with corresponding charging processes. The electrical energy was converted to the petrol equivalent (1 kWh= liter of petrol). What is worth Surprising finding: Without the predicted loss of value, the VW Passat GTE is the most cost-effective Passat even with 30,000 km per year. This is also due to the low fixed costs for taxes and insurance. As soon as fuel prices rise again, the cost advantage of the VW Passat GTE increases anyway. Monthly costs with /without depreciation in euros including maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes, assuming annual mileage of 10,000, 15,000, 20,000 and 30,000 kilometers. The calculation is based on the test consumption (ams-Profi l) and no-claims class 12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance including discounts (including garage parking, restriction to certain drivers).

"Started From The Bottom" #1 FSI VS TDI I currently on a FSI & my Mate has a TDI I want a head to head list of things that make FSI better than the TDI or the other way round. I want to also know if mechanically if 1 engine is better for reliability then the other FSI vs TDI This is my list so far Can Everybody on Please add what you think is a benefit Too Each Engine. Benefits of FSI 1. More Rev’s 2. Less Engine Noise Benefits Of TDI 1. More MPG 2. More Torque At the end of all this talk I’ll Post the Winner of What Engine has Won!!!!! Last edited: Mar 16, 2010 #2 Benefits of FSI Benefits of TDI 1. More Economy 2. Cheaper to run 3. Superb when mapped Last edited: Mar 16, 2010 Goner Guest #3 The FSI non turbo can't be quicker than a TDI 140 surely? #4 Just checked parkers. FSI FAIL "Started From The Bottom" #5 Just checked parkers. FSI FAIL So it's not quicker then the TDI ? #6 Nope. If it was TFSI or - it would be alot closer contest. Goner Guest #7 I can't see the FSI being anywhere near as quick as a TDI 140, either from a standing start or it's 'in gear' acceleration. Map the TDI 140 and it will paste the FSI. The TFSI, well that's a different kettle of fish again.. With the correct tuning and driven right, this engine is a right tool. :icon_thumright: Goner Guest #9 One thing that does go in the FSI's favour is that there is no turbo to go wrong, the TDI turbo is an expensive unit to replace when (and i say when because it will) blow. I have just had to fork out £650 for a turbo repair and all the other bits and bats that go with it, i managed to do this on the cheap (if you can call it that) through a good friend of the family. The TDI doesn't have a cracking rep for having a bullet proof turbo shall we say, nearly every tuner i spoke to when enquiring about having my TDI mapped told me the turbo on the TDI is a weak point of the engine. :icon_thumright: #10 I see no reason what so ever for buying a FSI (or the actually). Its got to be either a or a in the A3. Or a V6 if you are feeling particularly evil :icon_thumright: "Started From The Bottom" #11 Quick Update.....It's still neck on neck... Benefits of FSI 1. More Rev’s 2. Less Engine Noise 3. No Turbo ...to go wrong..Less money to spend on when it goes wrong. Benefits Of TDI 1. More MPG 2. More Torque 3. Good to re-map #12 This thread is a bit pointless, like a top trumps only one deck is a loser everytime! The a part from being fairly quiet really has nothing else going for it, its slow, not that much more economical the way less economical then the and not even tuneable. #13 Mate of mine just picked the 20FSI over the TDI as generally they were much cheaper and miles tended to be lower on used cars. He doesnt do many miles and the single frame TDIs were out of his budget. He`s not interested in modding so the FSI limited tuning options didnt matter. So to some the FSI makes a lot of sense. Its not for everyone but personally I dont think all of the criticism the FSI gets is necessarily justified. My 2p Cheers Paul #14 I think they de-tune the FSI for the Cayman. V6Pete Now running on Bentley's y'all #15 I hate diesels. Not a fan. However I'd much much rather have a TDI over the FSI. The FSI is underpowered and a pretty rubbish choice for an A3. #16 I've got an FSI and would also say that it gets a bad press on here. When I bought mine I didn't even test drive the TDI, basically because I was thinking that diesels are slow and rubbish. Ok, I was wrong. But since owning my car I've driven a couple of similar aged TDI 140's and I just can't see how anyone who has driven both could possibily say that the TDI is so much better than an FSI. I think what makes the TDI "feel" quicker than the FSI is its low down torque, so you get an immediate shove in the back when you put your foot down (although it runs out pretty quickly), whereas the FSI gives a smoother delivery so doesn't feel as quick. But side by side there is nothing in it. On the flip side, the FSI is slightly quicker to 60 according to their stats, has a bit more bnp, but not enough to mean it really is quicker. If tuning is what is wanted then, yes, forget the FSI. But as standard and to be kept standard there is no noticeable difference in performance between the two, they just offer it in a different way. But as the TDI has more torque, it does feel quicker. Who cares what it says on paper... The fsi has about 10 bhp more. But you're right, what's on paper doesn't always transfer to the road. The tdi just feels quicker, that's what I said. But really it ain't. #19 I think they de-tune the FSI for the Cayman. And its cheap!! #20 Reasons for FSi over TDi dodgy early cylinder heads cracking turbos blowing at low mileage Dual mass flywheels failing at low mileage EGR valves failing at low mileage FSi easier to pick up with lower mileage Reasons for TDi over FSi More torque, especially if remapped Better fuel economy The FSi isnt THAT slow, is certainly not fast though - I think the 6 speed box makes it seem slower & tall gearing for better MPG doesn't help. Also, catch the turbo off boost..... In my mind if you want a faster car, go for the TDi, if you want a cheaper car to run in the long run - FSi, sure the mpg is better on the TDi but thats soon wiped out by having to replace a turbo or DMF. Most of the taxi drivers in my area have swapped back onto petrol engines for that reason. #21 The fsi has about 10 bhp more. But you're right, what's on paper doesn't always transfer to the road. The tdi just feels quicker, that's what I said. But really it ain't. If I had a PD140 to make it a bit fairer (the 170 I've got would destroy it even if it was still standard) I'd quite happily put it up against a to show its faster. I have no doubt what so ever that it would be. I dont condone racing though #22 If I had a PD140 to make it a bit fairer I'd quite happily put it up against a to show its faster. I have no doubt what so ever that it would be. You'd be wrong, and sad. Been there and done it, quite a few times, and it easily goes either way And as someone has stated, the second you're off boost and left only with DI; well............. What I notice when having a tear ups with PD140's is....... they jump off a bit quicker, but with each of their gear changes I reel them back in quite quickly. And the fact that they've had to change up to about 6th while I'm still in 2nd doesn't help them either! At low revs the FSI is pretty dire, but after getting used to how it drives its pretty easy to adjust your driving style to get the best out of the engine. Keeping revs high really makes a difference. The FSI has a noticeable increase in power somewhere around 3500 rpm and continues well throughout the rest of the range. But like I said, I'm by no means saying that the FSI is a "fast car", but all this talk of it being slow is unfair. And to speak highly of the TDI 140 against the FSI, in their standard forms, makes me think that those who do don't really have experience of driving both. #23 Its all about the tdi I never though that I would be a diesel head "Started From The Bottom" #24 You'd be wrong, and sad. If the power brakes work fine, the vacuum pump is OK. You need someone to tell you the DTC codes to figure this out. The PCV system on the 2.0 TSI/TSFI is not typicaly problematic. You could try removing the hose from the PCV to the intake manifold, and seal shut the hose port on the intake manifold : then see if the car idles normally.
Regardless, we recommend you to update your browser.

One of the most common issues are related to the TDI 2.5 engine. Considering that I almost nothing about engines, my general understanding is that a TDI 2.0 is the most reliable one, followed by 1.9 and finally 2.5. However, I'm very confused by the whole matter, and I would like to know what you think on the topic.
Hi thereBoth the TDI and TSI Tiguans are very capable and desirable vehicles, so it's easy to understand why you can't decide between these two - especially because they cost roughly the the TSI's power advantage will be difficult to overlook, while the TDI will only really make sense if you plan on using the vehicle predominantly for long-distance trips. Around town, the difference in consumption may well be smaller than you'd imagine, with the diesel's efficiency advantage only becoming really notable on the open road. In the long term, neither of them has any clear-cut advantage in terms of maintenance costs, though servicing on the TSI will be less expensive once the service plan has expired. The TDI will likely need attention to its injectors at some point (after about 150 000 km), while the TSI won't have this issue. They both have turbochargers and all manner of emission-control equipment, though, which would likely require attention before you've hit the 200 000 km mark on either of them. In the end, it depends on the usage of the car: long distance driving will see the fuel efficiency of the TDI save you a pretty penny (which will then eventually go into servicing and maintenance), but the TSI will be nicer to use and a lot more refined day to day. And it's quite noticeably quicker as well... so that means that we'd probably recommend the TSI over the TDI for most this helps! The AskAutoTrader Team

Jenže ne každý ocení tvrdší podvozek a agresivnější design. Někdo chce mít Octavii pořád obyčejnou, nenápadnou a hlavně pohodlnou, v čemž provedení RS na silnicích horší kvality trochu pokulhává.
Look for as late a car as possible, as the later engines have better reliability in regards to the timing chain tensioner's (see sticky at the top of the sub forum) both 1.8 and 2.0 Tsi's effected, if the chain jumps it can and often does destroy the engine. Early 1.8 tsi also has a drink problem (loves a drop of oil), due to bad piston ring
